Water Conservation
and Restrictions
Our aim is to manage the demand for water, as best as possible, to ensure we can meet the essential needs of households, businesses and public services.

Te Kuiti, Piopio and Benneydale water supplies are currently on water alert level 1. We ask residents and businesses to conserve water by using sprinklers between 6-8am and 6-8pm. Hand-held hosing is allowed anytime.

Mokau water supply is on water restriction level 4. Essential water use only. There is a complete ban on any outdoor water use.

For water saving tips please visit our website here.
Kerbside Recycling Collection Service
We provide a kerbside collection service for Piopio, Mokau/Awakino, Waitomo Village (and Rural ward) on a Tuesday. Te Kuiti’s collection day is Friday. Please place your green bin and blue bags on the kerbside by 8am on the day of collection.

Recycle paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and containers (types 1 and 2 only), aluminium and tin cans, and glass bottles and jars (green, clear, brown). Remove lids and rinse containers, bottles, tins and jars. Squash plastic bottles and metal cans. Flatten cardboard and place next to or inside the green bin.

We do not accept contaminated recycling, non-recyclable items, overfilled bins, commercial volumes of recycling or items placed in a non-WDC bin.

Large volumes of recycling can be recycled for free at the Waitomo District Landfill on Williams Street, open Wednesday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
